Sophie Carite (she/her) is an undergraduate student from St. Louis, Missouri, studying journalism and public health. Sophie is a very versatile student who describes herself as diligent, passionate, and an eager learner. She has writing experiences as an online editor at The Maneater, experience with newsrooms at ABC17 in Columbia, and experience with running social media accounts for Breakout CoMo. Sophie is also involved on campus with Science, Health and Environmental Journalism (SHE-J) and with the University of Missouri Hillel. Sophie is interested in research so that she can directly involve herself in efforts to improve and understand public health and science communication. Sophie also looks forward to learning from a diverse group of researchers in a team-oriented environment. Sophie has personal academic goals of exploring the public health issues that harm underserved communities, enhancing her presentation and advocacy abilities, and developing a deeper understanding of academic research and its potential community impacts.
